What is Teleradiology?

Teleradiology is essentially the same as regular radiology. Teleradiologists interpret medical images in the same way traditional radiologists do; they simply do so in a separate location from where the images were taken. ePRA radiologists use state-of-the-art medical communication technologies to ensure every image gets the best interpretation possible as quickly as possible.

Why Do Healthcare Facilities Use Teleradiology?

Implementing teleradiology services improves patient care in a number of ways, including making the interpretation process more efficient and ensuring interpretation quality.

At busier hospitals, onsite radiologists can sometimes become overwhelmed with requests for interpretations, resulting in slower turnaround times for those images. In these instances, teleradiology services provide an important 24/7 safety net to ensure every image gets interpreted as quickly as possible.

Sometimes medical images require the eye of a specially trained radiologist. Beyond basic radiology training, radiologists can also specialize in a number of fields such as musculoskeletal radiology and neuroradiology.

Hospitals in remote, rural or even suburban locations may not have a radiologist for every subspecialty on staff. Generally, subspecialists work in large metropolitan areas because that is where they are needed the most.
